OUR Story

Fresh is best!

The Sunset Café and Loose Wolf Saloon is owned and operated by father, mother, daughter, son, and daughter-in-law: Joey, Terry, Kelly, Josh, and Nichole. The five have worked with many friends and family members to grow their business and share their passion for the kitchen.

How do they do it?

The Sunset Café was established on July 9th, 1936, and quickly became known for its heritage-based comfort food. In 1973, Joey’s mother, Bonnie, became a partner with three others to tackle the growing restaurant industry.

A few years later, Joey and his wife, Terry, joined in on the partnership at just 24 years old. By 1994, Bonnie, Joey, and Terry had bought the entirety of the business from their partners. Joey, Terry, their daughter, Kelly, their son, Josh, and Josh’s wife, Nichole, have all been business partners together for several years now.

A few more facts about the restaurant:

- The building has faced 5 remodels, including a complete remodel in 1980

- In 1959, the building burned down (and they were still using a wooden coal range to cook for their customers!)

- For many years, The Sunset Café & Loose Wolf Saloon was open for 24 hours. Joey and family would come to work at 11:00 pm to prepare for the bar crowds.

- Famous dishes over the years have included fried chicken with ravioli and beef stew. Many elements of the homemade dishes are frequently used today.

- In previous years, the Sunset has employed about 35 employees at a time. However, the highest was about 65.

Today
